BIO
Caleb Sierra is a Latino author from the Pacific Northwest who writes horror, science fiction, fantasy, and all combinations of the above. He loves to read and write stories that highlight mundane and tangible facets of bizarre and/or horrifying premises. Caleb is looking for manuscripts that are difficult to categorize—not for lack of vision, but because they don't have an obvious spot on the shelf: unexpected genre mashups, underrepresented cultures and folklore, grimy fantasy, climate-focused sci-fi. Romance is welcome, but he's probably not the best judge if it's at the forefront. No matter the genre(s), he wants troubled characters with high personal stakes tied up in unusual worldbuilding. He's also eager for skin-crawling, shudder-inducing horror; weird textures and visceral descriptions. However, Caleb prefers darkness with a purpose over gratuitous misery and splatter. Having something interesting to say through horror will intrigue him more than shock for the sake of it.
Caleb is most experienced with indie/small-press publishing and he hopes to introduce more writers to the opportunities in that space, but he's also quite familiar with the traditional querying process. Either way, he wants to help another author realize the strongest version of their query package, especially the manuscript. Caleb's mentoring style is all about drawing out the story that wants to be told, aiming for impact over convention while always respecting the author's vision.
