BIO
Damara Allen (she/her) was born and raised in central NY. She lives with her husband, 14 year old daughter, and many furbabies. She’s a customer service manager by day and an author in her “spare” time, though she’d love nothing more than to write full time.
Damara is represented by Emily S. Keyes of The Keyes Agency, LLC. She is the author of The Skeleton Flute (Aladdin Books ‘24) and The Undead War (Working title, Aladdin Books ‘26), and a super-secret series inspired by the show Supernatural that will hopefully be announced soon!
When she’s not vacuuming up cat hair, Damara is spending time with her family, traveling, reading through her TBR pile, or watching TV. Damara loves writing in the MG space, especially horror, and aims to tackle the big issues in kids’ lives. She is bi-racial (black/white) and features main characters that look like her.
MSWL
I’m currently looking for Middle Grade books, only. While I love reading both YA and Adult, most of my experience falls in the MG space. I love a good horror! Think Lindsay Currie’s It Found Us, Ally Russell’s It Came from the Trees, or Daka Hermon’s Hide and Seeker. Give me your monsters, ghosts, urban legends, zombies, cryptids, creatures, etc. MG horror is number one on my list. I also love nature-based or eco-horror.
I also love a good mystery. Think Lindsay Currie’s House with No Keys. I love unexpected twists and unreliable narrators.
Give me your fantasy stories with gorgeous world building and rich characters that I can fall in love with. Magic, portals, fantastical creatures. I’m here for it! I might not be the best fit for animals as main characters though.
I’m also open to contemporary and historical MG, though I don’t have a lot of experience writing it. So, we’d be learning and growing together!
I would not be a good fit for NIV, as I can only bow down in absolute adoration and awe for anyone who has that skillset.
I’d love to see stories from POC, queer, disabled, neurodiverse, and other underrepresented authors, though I’m open to any and all as long as your story is engaging! Would love it if your story is diverse in a non-stereotypical way though.
I’m a sucker for retellings of all kinds. Give me your gender bent, twisted, or obscure fairytale, folklore, fable, or mythical retellings!
Multi POV is great as long as it’s necessary to tell the story. And, of course, humor is welcome in all of the above genres!
About me:
I was a mentee in the very last class of PitchWars and had two amazing mentors. This is a full circle moment for me, being able to give back after having such a great experience in PW. I am a pantser, so if that’s your style, we’ll get along really well. I’m not a stranger to plotting, however, as being on deadline often means plotting is a necessary evil.
I’m prepared to be as hands on or off as you need/want. Prefer email/chat over zoom? Sure thing! Like to talk in person? Not a problem. I’m so excited to work with you on your story and hope to form a bond that will last beyond our mentorship. But, like, if you just want me to help with your book and buzz off afterwards, that’s fine too.
