K.M. VEOHONGS

BIO

K.M. Veohongs is a mixed race Thai-American writer of speculative fiction and poetry based in New England. As the daughter of an immigrant to the US, she writes a lot about diaspora feelings, usually through the most irreverent lens possible. Her alter ego is a veterinarian who has a weird animal story ready for every occasion.

K.M.’s short fiction and poetry is featured in Kaleidotrope, Translunar Traveler’s Lounge, and elsewhere, including the Bram Stoker award-nominated anthology Mother: Tales of Love and Terror. She also co-hosts a podcast on writing and publishing, Thanks But Not For Me, with friend and fellow writer, Ash Huang. She is represented by Hana El Niwairi at CookeMcDermid.

While I mostly write fantasy (often with a nod towards horror), my reading tastes are broad, so I am open to a wide variety of manuscripts. Generally, I enjoy all manners of speculative fiction, more elevated prose, and character-based rather than plot-focused works. Humor is a plus, but not a requirement.

More specifically, I’ll read most types of fantasy and horror, but I have a particular love for literary speculative fiction. With SF, I tend to prefer books that take place in the near future versus big space operas. I also prefer work that is smack in the middle of the “cozy” to “grimdark” spectrum, versus either extreme. I love a genre weird book! Give me your speculative novels that you’re not sure how to categorize. Also give me your novels that look at familiar tropes through a new lens, especially if you're a writer from a marginalized community. Though I always enjoy a good romantic subplot, I am not the best fit for books where romance is the primary focus.
