MADISON STORY

BIO

Madison Story (she/her) grew up in a suburb of Dallas, Texas. After graduating with a Radio-TV-Film degree from the University of Texas at Austin, she moved to Los Angeles and has worked in various parts of the film industry for the past 15 years. She enjoys listening to TV rewatch podcasts, trying absurd fall coffee flavors, and complaining that movies are consistently too long.

Madison’s writing can be summed up with 3 Ms: monsters, mysteries, and movie references. She loves helping writers tighten their plots, enhance the voice in their stories, and most of all, cut words! She writes YA mysteries with a paranormal twist and is repped by Alex Land at Mad Woman Literary Agency.

MSWL

I’m mainly interested in YA thriller, mystery, and horror, since this is where I have the most experience writing. But I will consider other age groups or genres if I really connect with the premise

Some general things I like:

  • Genre blends, especially if there’s a paranormal element

  • Stories with social commentary

  • Fun and fast-paced plots

  • Monster stories

  • Friendship stories

  • YA where family plays a big role

  • Humor

Some recent and evergreen faves to get a sense of my tastes:

Books – Academy of Muses by Andrea Max, I Don’t Wish You Well by Jumata Emill, The Blonde Dies First by Joelle Wellington, This Delicious Death by Kayla Cottingham, The Mary Shelley Club by Goldy Moldavsky, Gideon Green in Black and White by Katie Henry

TV – Survivor (I love S16 with the Black Widow Brigade), The Vampire Diaries, The OC, Veronica Mars, Only Murders in the Building

Movies – Jennifer’s Body, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Companion, Lisa Frankenstein, A Quiet Place: Day One
